Cuplock Standards

The vertical members of the cuplock system, manufactured in our own factory in Umm Al Quwain from EN10219 steel tube with a cup node every 500 mm. Five lengths from 1.0 m to 3.0 m, to buy or on monthly hire.

What a cuplock standard is

A standard is the vertical tube that carries the load of a cuplock scaffold down to the ground. What separates it from a plain scaffold tube is the node: a bottom cup welded to the tube with a sliding top cup above it, repeated every 500 mm along the length. Up to four ledger or transom blades drop into the bottom cup, and a single hammer tap on the top cup locks them all.

We make our standards in-house from EN10219 cold-formed welded steel tube, 48.3 mm outside diameter with a 3.2 mm wall, in grades S235JR and S275JR. Standards join end to end with a 250 mm spigot, so different lengths combine to reach the height you need. They pair with our cuplock ledgers and sit on base jacks at the bottom and U-head jacks at the top.

Made in the UAE

Manufactured at our Umm Al Quwain factory. You are buying or hiring from the maker, not from a pool of mixed stock.

EN10219 steel tube

48.3 mm outside diameter with a 3.2 mm wall, in steel grades S235JR and S275JR.

03

A node every 500 mm

A welded bottom cup and a captive top cup at each node, locking up to four blades at once.

04

Standard geometry

Consistent with the cuplock systems described in BS 1139 Part 3, so it works with industry-standard ledgers and accessories.

How standards are used

The same standard does two different jobs. What changes is the grid and what sits on top.

Slab Shoring

Supporting a slab

Standards are set out on a grid and topped with U-head jacks that carry the primary beams. Grid spacing follows slab thickness and load, not floor height.

  • 2.5 × 2.5 m grid: light slabs up to 150 mm
  • 1.8 × 1.8 m grid: typical slabs up to about 280 mm
  • 1.6 × 1.6 m grid: heavy slabs, drop beams, transfer slabs

Access

Access scaffolding

Standards run continuously up the scaffold, with ledgers tying them together at each lift, typically every 2.0 m.

  • 2.5 m bays along the run
  • Platform widths from 0.9 m to 1.8 m
  • Guardrail ledger about 1 m above each platform

Planning

Reaching the height

Combine lengths so the stack reaches the level you need with the fewest joints. Every joint takes a spigot, so fewer pieces means fewer loose parts.

  • 6 m: two 3.0 m standards
  • 5 m: two 2.5 m standards
  • 11 m: two 3.0 m and two 2.5 m

These grids are indicative starting points. How much load a standard carries depends on the lift height, the bracing and how far the jacks are extended, so the final spacing is confirmed by a shoring design. See the allowable load against jack extension and our guide to how much load a cuplock standard can carry.

Cuplock Standards FAQ

What sizes do cuplock standards come in?+

We stock five lengths: 1.0 m, 1.5 m, 2.0 m, 2.5 m and 3.0 m. They join end to end with a spigot, so lengths can be combined to reach the height required.

How much does a cuplock standard weigh?+

A 3.0 m standard weighs about 13.9 kg and a 1.0 m standard about 4.6 kg. The full table is on this page, and actual weights fall within 3% of the listed values.

What steel are cuplock standards made from?+

EN10219 cold-formed welded steel tube, 48.3 mm outside diameter with a 3.2 mm wall, in grades S235JR and S275JR.

Will your standards work with cuplock we already own?+

The geometry is consistent with the cuplock systems described in BS 1139 Part 3: 48.3 mm tube with nodes at 500 mm. That makes the standards compatible with industry-standard cuplock ledgers, transoms and accessories. If you are mixing stock from different makers, check the fit of the blade in the cup before ordering in quantity.

Can I rent cuplock standards instead of buying?+

Yes. Standards are available to buy, new or used, and on monthly hire with delivery from our yard in Umm Al Quwain. Every hire comes with a layout drawing and a bill of quantities from our engineers.
