Cuplock Ledgers

The horizontal members of the cuplock system. Drop-forged blade ends lock into the cups on the standards with one hammer blow. Made in our Umm Al Quwain factory in eight sizes from 0.6 m to 2.5 m, to buy or on monthly hire.

What a cuplock ledger does

Ledgers tie the standards together and set the bay size of the scaffold. Each end carries a forged steel blade. The blades drop into the bottom cups of two neighbouring cuplock standards, the top cups are turned down over them, and one hammer blow locks the joint. No nuts, bolts or wedges.

A ledger is sized by the centre-to-centre distance between the standards it connects, not by the overall length of the tube. Each node accepts up to four blade ends, so four horizontal members can meet at one standard at the same level.

Ledgers run parallel to the working face. Transoms run across it and carry the boards. Our intermediate transoms have pressed U-body ends that seat over the ledgers, and are stocked in 1.0 m, 1.2 m, 1.6 m and 1.8 m.

01

Drop-forged blade ends

The blade that takes the load is forged, then welded to the tube at both ends.

02

Made in-house

Manufactured at our Umm Al Quwain factory from EN10219 steel tube.

03

Eight stocked sizes

0.6, 0.9, 1.0, 1.2, 1.3, 1.6, 1.8 and 2.5 m, covering shoring grids and access bays.

04

Four members per node

One cup locks up to four blades, so ledgers and transoms meet at the same level.

Which ledger for which job

The ledger sets the grid, so the size follows from the load on a shoring job and from the bay and platform on an access job.

Slab Shoring

Shoring grids

The ledger length is the grid spacing. Heavier slabs need a tighter grid, so more legs share the load.

  • 2.5 m ledgers: light slabs up to 150 mm
  • 1.8 m ledgers: typical slabs up to about 280 mm
  • 1.6 m ledgers: heavy slabs, drop beams, transfer slabs

Access

Access scaffolds

A 2.5 m ledger runs along each bay, and a shorter ledger across the scaffold sets the platform width.

  • 2.5 m ledgers along the run
  • Width ledgers of 0.9, 1.0, 1.2, 1.3, 1.6 or 1.8 m
  • One guardrail ledger above each platform

Planning

Runs that do not divide evenly

When a run is not a whole number of 2.5 m bays, the last bay takes the smallest stocked ledger that covers what is left.

  • 6 m run: 2.5 + 2.5 + 1.0 m
  • 3 m run: 2.5 + 0.6 m
  • 12 m run: five 2.5 m bays

The shoring grids above are indicative starting points. The final spacing, the number of ledger levels and the bracing are confirmed by a shoring design for the slab in question. Our system specification sheet lists the working configurations.

Cuplock Ledgers FAQ

What sizes of cuplock ledger do you stock?+

Eight sizes: 0.6 m, 0.9 m, 1.0 m, 1.2 m, 1.3 m, 1.6 m, 1.8 m and 2.5 m, measured centre to centre between standards.

How much does a 2.5 m cuplock ledger weigh?+

About 8.6 kg. A 1.8 m ledger weighs about 6.2 kg and a 1.2 m ledger about 4.2 kg. The table on this page lists every size.

What is the difference between a ledger and a transom?+

A ledger connects two standards at the node and runs parallel to the working face. A transom runs across the scaffold and carries the boards. Our intermediate transoms have pressed U-body ends that seat over the ledgers.

How does a cuplock ledger lock to the standard?+

The blade at each end drops into the bottom cup on the standard. The top cup is turned down over the blades and locked with one hammer blow. One node holds up to four blades.

Can I buy ledgers on their own?+

Yes. Ledgers are available to buy, new or used, and on monthly hire. Send the sizes and quantities and we will quote.
